Android’s New File Transfer Feature Streamlines Setup and Data Migration

Android’s new feature simplifies initial setup and data transfer from an old phone to a new one.

Android has a proven track record in file management and sharing. When purchasing a new phone, most users transfer their data from the old device to the new one using Android’s file management tools.

Google’s mobile operating system provides a tool for file transfer, while Samsung offers its own proprietary tool called Smart Switch. Now, it seems Google is pursuing a simpler and faster method for transferring files from an old phone to a new one.

Apparently, Google is developing a new solution that integrates Android’s default file transfer method with Samsung’s Smart Switch, resulting in a faster new phone setup. Currently, there are three methods for transferring data from an old phone to a new one:

Restoring data with a Google account;
Transferring data wirelessly;
Transferring data using a cable.

According to AssembleDebug on XDA (formerly XDA Developers), Google is developing a new method called MultiTransportD2dTransport, which can use both Wi-Fi and USB cable simultaneously to transfer data from an old phone to a new Android device. This feature significantly increases data transfer speed and new phone setup.

Google intends to introduce a feature that many Samsung phone models have made available to users for years. This feature is called Restore Anytime and allows users to transfer their desired data from their current device to another new or old device whenever they want.

Previously, users could only do this when one of the devices had been factory reset. The new Android feature has limitations; for example, you can only copy data from a device that you have previously used to copy data from.
