iPadOS 17.5 Adds Battery Health Menu to iPad Air 2024 and iPad Pro 2024

In a quiet move, Apple has added one of the useful features of the iPhone 15 series to new iPads. The iPad Air 2024 and iPad Pro 2024 have a new Battery Health menu in the Settings app. The menu includes options that were previously only available on the iPhone 15 series.

According to iCulture, the new Battery Health menu includes battery health, maximum capacity, charge cycle count, and an optimization feature that limits charging to 80%.

iPad users, like iPhone users, can see details about the battery’s manufacturing date and time of first use.

Charging the battery to 80% is different from Optimized Battery Charging. When the iPad’s battery is charged to 80%, charging stops (except in certain situations to accurately assess battery health).

Apple says that preventing the battery from fully charging reduces wear and tear and extends battery life. The feature is unlikely to make its way to older iPads.
