Xiaomi Patents Satellite Internet for Cars, Eyes 5.5G

Xiaomi has filed a new patent for a satellite-to-car connection technology, which could improve the quality and stability of satellite communications and navigation in Xiaomi cars. It is unclear whether this feature will be present in the SU7 car.

Geely Automobile recently launched 11 satellites into low-Earth orbit. The aim of the satellites is to integrate communications, improve navigation and achieve remote identification for autonomous vehicles.

In addition to focusing on satellite communications, the Chinese giant is also paying attention to the 5.5G network, and the competition to connect to the next generation of mobile network (5.5G) has intensified with Xiaomi joining Oppo and Vivo.

According to Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi wants to enable 5.5G connectivity on smartphones equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The company recently tested the Xiaomi 14 Ultra with this technology and achieved a speed of 5,132 Mbps.

The 5.5G network, which is commercially known as 5G-A, acts as a bridge between the current 5G networks and the 6G network. The 5.5G network increases download speed by 10 times while reducing latency and improving the positioning system.
