Xbox handheld console with Windows operating system is being tested

According to Neowin, citing internal Microsoft sources, the company is working hard to bring a new handheld gaming console to market to compete with the Steam Deck and other competitors.

Many companies that make handheld game consoles use the Windows operating system for their devices. The presence of the creator of Windows in this part of the market can create good competitive advantages for the latest Xbox console.

The construction of a prototype of the Microsoft handheld console does not necessarily mean that this project is finalized. If the Redmond company’s idea is not profitable, it may be scrapped altogether.

Given the popularity of Windows for gamers and the existence of services like Xbox Game Pass, the Xbox handheld console could have a good chance in the market; however, the price of the game console will also affect its success.

Additional details:

The console is said to be in the early stages of development and is codenamed “Project Keystone.”
It is expected to run on a custom AMD processor and will have a similar form factor to the Nintendo Switch.
The console will reportedly support Xbox Game Pass, giving users access to a library of over 100 games.
Microsoft is reportedly targeting a release date of late 2023 or early 2024.

Analysis:

The Xbox handheld console could be a major player in the market if it is priced competitively and offers a good selection of games. The fact that it will run on Windows could also be a major advantage, as it will give users access to a wider range of games than other handheld consoles.

However, the console will face stiff competition from the Steam Deck, which is already available for purchase and has been well-received by critics. The Steam Deck also has the advantage of being more powerful than the Xbox handheld console, at least on paper.

Ultimately, the success of the Xbox handheld console will depend on its price, its game library, and its performance. If Microsoft can get all of those things right, then the console could be a major success.
