WhatsApp Unveils AI-Powered Image Generation Feature

WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, has introduced a new AI-powered feature that allows users to instantly convert text into images. This feature, powered by Meta AI, is currently being tested in the United States and is expected to roll out to more users soon.

To use the feature, users simply need to type a text description in the Meta AI chat within WhatsApp. As the user types, the AI will start generating an image based on the text. The more details the user adds, the more refined the image will become.

For example, if the user types “Imagine a football game on Mars,” the AI will initially generate a generic football game image. However, as the user adds more details, such as “the players are wearing red and blue jerseys” or “the game is taking place in a stadium surrounded by Martian landscape,” the AI will update the image accordingly.

Users who are part of the beta program can access the feature by typing “Imagine” followed by their text description in the Meta AI chat.

Meta claims that its Llama 3 large language model, which powers the Meta AI service, can generate clearer and higher-quality images than previous models. Additionally, the AI is better at understanding and displaying text in images. Users can also use the new Meta AI to animate any image they like.

The AI-powered image generation feature is available not only on WhatsApp but also on the web version of Meta AI for US users. This feature is part of a broader set of AI-powered features that Meta is rolling out today across its Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger platforms.
