Vivo Unveils X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro: Lighter, Faster, and More Refined

Vivo has officially launched two new foldable smartphones with book-like form factors, the Vivo X Fold 3 and Vivo X Fold 3 Pro, which easily make it to the list of best foldable phones. These two devices are not only faster and more powerful than their predecessors, but also thinner and lighter, making them even more appealing foldable options.

Improved Design and Durability

According to Vivo’s official statement, both the Vivo X Fold 3 and Vivo X Fold 3 Pro are significantly thinner than the X Fold 2 series and have seen notable improvements in the camera and battery departments.

The Vivo X Fold 3 weighs in at 219 grams, making it the lightest inward-folding smartphone (the Honor Magic Vs weighs 214 grams, but it folds outwards and lacks a secondary display).

The weight of the Vivo X Fold 3 makes it surprisingly lighter than some traditional smartphones such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max (221 grams), Galaxy S24 Ultra (232 grams), and even foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (253 grams).

The Vivo X Fold 2 weighed 279 grams and was 12.9 millimeters thick, while the Vivo X Fold 3 is only 10.2 millimeters thick when closed.

Stunning Displays

Both of Vivo’s new foldable devices feature similar displays. The internal display measures 8.03 inches with a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, and thanks to technology embedded by Samsung, it reaches a brightness of 4,500 nits.

The 6.53-inch external display on both phones has a resolution of 2,758 x 1,172 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a brightness of 4,500 nits.

Powerful Performance

The X Fold 3 Pro is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and Vivo’s V3 image signal processor. It will be available in two configurations with 16GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB of storage (the RAM and storage are of LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 types, respectively).

The rear camera system of the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro consists of a 50MP main camera (with OV50H sensor and lens equipped with optical image stabilization), a 64MP telephoto camera (with OV64B sensor), and a 50MP ultra-wide camera (with JN1 sensor). The selfie cameras of this phone have a 32MP sensor.

The standard Vivo X Fold 3 features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and 12 or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Unlike the Pro model, it does not have a dedicated V3 image signal processor.

The Vivo X Fold 3 uses a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 50MP telephoto camera, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera on the back. The selfie cameras in the Vivo X Fold 3 have a 32MP sensor.

Enhanced Durability

Both new Vivo phones are equipped with a lightweight carbon fiber hinge that weighs only 14.98 grams and has passed 500,000 folding tests. Vivo claims that the front panels of the X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro are 11 times more resistant than the previous generation, and this difference increases to 15 times for the rear panels.

Other Features

The Vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro, despite being spiritual siblings, have significant differences. The Pro model is IPX8 certified, while the standard model has IPX4 certification. The Vivo X Fold 2 did not have any water resistance certification.

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro has a 5,700mAh battery, which is 900mAh larger than the battery of the Vivo X Fold 2. The standard Vivo X Fold 3 has a 5,500mAh battery. The Pro and standard models support 100W and 80W wired charging, respectively; the Pro model also supports 50W wireless charging unlike the standard model.

The new Vivo phones connect to 5G networks and have Wi-Fi 7 and NFC chips. The Pro model uses the high-speed USB 3.2 Gen2 standard. Both phones have stereo speakers, Wireless Lossless Hi-Fi audio, and a physical mute button
