TikTok to Label AI-Generated Content with Content Credentials

TikTok will now automatically label AI-generated content uploaded to the platform from other sources, including content created using OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 and Microsoft’s Bing Image Creator. This move is aimed at combating misinformation and promoting transparency around AI-generated content.

The company will use Content Credentials technology, developed by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), to embed metadata into AI-generated content. This metadata will allow TikTok to automatically identify and label such content, even if it is downloaded from the platform.

Previously, TikTok only required creators to label AI-generated content created using the platform’s own AI tools. The new policy will expand this requirement to all AI-generated content uploaded to the platform.

The use of Content Credentials is expected to help users understand the origin and creation process of AI-generated content, making it more difficult for such content to be used to spread misinformation.
