Spatialify App Update Improves 3D Video Recording on iPhone 15 Pro

The Spatialify app, which costs $3, can now record 3D videos at a higher resolution than Apple’s Camera app on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Spatial video is Apple’s term for stereoscopic 3D recording on the iPhone. Currently, only the Vision Pro and iPhone 15 Pro models are capable of recording spatial videos. These videos are saved in Apple’s HEVC Stereo format and can only be played back on Apple’s VR headset.

The Spatialify app was released in 2023 with the goal of converting spatial videos into regular 3D videos that can be played back on any VR headset. Three months after the app’s release, Meta’s Quest 3 VR headset gained support for iPhone Spatial videos.

In addition to converting the format of iPhone 3D videos, Spatialify has also been able to record 3D videos itself since its inception. It has now been observed that the latest update to the app has added support for HDR recording as well as the option to choose between a higher frame rate or higher resolution.

The new Spatialify update is capable of recording 3D videos at 1080p resolution and 60fps frame rate or 4K resolution and 30fps frame rate, and both modes support high dynamic range (HDR).

Apple’s Camera app can only record 3D videos at 1080p resolution, 30fps frame rate, and standard dynamic range (SDR).

When viewed on the iPhone’s display, 3D videos look no different from regular videos, but when viewed with the Vision Pro headset, a 3D viewing experience is transmitted. Spatial videos, which are saved in HEVC format, occupy about 130 megabytes of storage space on the phone per minute.

Here are some additional details about the Spatialify app update:

The update adds support for HDR recording, which can improve the quality of 3D videos in scenes with high contrast.
The update also adds the option to choose between a higher frame rate or higher resolution. This gives users more control over the quality of their 3D videos.
The update is available now for free on the App Store.

Here are some additional details about spatial video:

Spatial video is a type of 3D video that captures the depth of a scene.
This allows viewers to feel like they are actually inside the scene, rather than just watching it from a distance.
Spatial video is captured using two cameras that are positioned slightly apart from each other.
This simulates the way that human eyes see the world, and creates a more immersive viewing experience.
Spatial video is still a relatively new technology, but it has the potential to revolutionize the way that we watch movies, TV shows, and other types of video content.
