Sony Unveils ‘Bravia Theater’ Brand for Home Audio Systems

Sony unveiled its latest achievements in home audio systems by introducing the new ‘Bravia Theater’ brand. According to Sony’s press release, the Japanese company’s soundbars and speakers will now be released under this new brand instead of the confusing HT-XXXX naming strategy.

The flagship products of Sony’s new audio lineup are the Bravia Theater Bar 9 and Bar 8 soundbars. The Bar 9, being the most powerful option, comes with 13 speakers, including upward-firing ones for Dolby Atmos 3D sound.

Compared to its predecessor (HT-A7000), the Bar 9 is up to 36% smaller. The Bar 8, with 11 speakers and 30% more compact than its previous generation (HT-A5000), offers another choice for buyers.

Both soundbars support Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, 360 Reality Audio Immersive Sound, and Hi-Res Audio formats. Additionally, when paired with Sony’s new wireless rear speakers and a subwoofer (via software update), they will gain IMAX Enhanced capability.

Connectivity-wise, the new Sony soundbars feature one HDMI input and one HDMI output (eARC). Thanks to HDMI 2.1 support, they can pass through 4K signals at 120Hz refresh rates.

Other features include Sony’s Sound Field Optimization for adjusting audio based on the environment, 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, and Acoustic Center Sync for seamless integration with compatible Sony TVs.

For a complete immersive system, Sony introduced the Bravia Theater Quad, a four-speaker setup replacing the previous HT-A9 model. Each cube-shaped speaker has dedicated tweeters, mid-ranges, woofers, and upward-firing drivers for Dolby Atmos.

The final product is the Bravia Theater U neckband speaker, which supports Dolby Atmos when connected to Sony TVs. It promises a 12-hour battery life, 360 Reality Audio sound, voice call microphones, and Bluetooth Multi-Point.

Pre-orders for the Bravia Theater Bar 9 ($1,400), Bar 8 ($1,000), and Theater U ($300) will begin this spring. The Theater Quad ($2,500) is available now, though subwoofers are sold separately for all models.
