Microsoft to Hold Surface Event on May 20th

Microsoft has officially confirmed to The Verge that it will be holding a special event focused on Windows and Surface AI on Monday, May 20, 2024, just ahead of its Build developer conference.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will be speaking at the event to discuss the company’s plans for AI across hardware and software.

The event will not be livestreamed and will be limited to a small group of journalists attending in person at Microsoft’s headquarters.

The focus of the event will be on new Surface hardware and Windows OS changes centered around AI.

Microsoft is also holding a business-focused event this Thursday, March 21, where it is expected to unveil commercial models of the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6. Consumer models of these devices will be announced at the May event.

The consumer Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 will be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon X Elite processor, which features a dedicated NPU for AI acceleration in Windows 11.

Pricing for Microsoft’s new laptops is not yet known.

Microsoft is also reportedly working on a new AI Explorer feature for Windows 11 that will remember everything you do on your system and make it easy to search through it, similar to the discontinued Timeline feature in Windows 10.
