Mark Gurman Reveals Major iOS 18 Changes and Customization Features

In his latest Power On newsletter, renowned Apple leaker Mark Gurman has shed light on some of the potential changes coming to iOS 18. Gurman suggests that iOS 18 will not only bring AI-powered enhancements but also major updates to most of the core iPhone apps, including Photos, Mail, Notes, and Fitness. Additionally, the Calculator app is expected to receive a feature update and make its debut on iPad for the first time.

Described as one of the biggest iOS updates in history, iOS 18 is likely to bring new features across the entire operating system. Confirming earlier reports, Gurman notes that the iPhone’s Home Screen will gain new capabilities, allowing users for the first time to freely arrange icons anywhere they like.

Gurman believes that the design changes in iOS 18 will make app designs more “modular” and easier to update and customize. It appears that Apple is aiming to harmonize UI elements across its various apps, enabling Apple’s engineering teams to more easily update apps over time, especially considering that each app is released on multiple devices like iPhones and iPads.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 18 and its new AI capabilities at WWDC 2024 on June 10th.
