High demand for Xiaomi SU7 leads to long wait times

Some Xiaomi SU7 models may take up to seven months to be delivered due to high demand and limited production capacity.

The high demand for the Xiaomi SU7 has caused the delivery time for some models, including the Max trim, to reach three to seven months. The SU7 is Xiaomi’s first car, and the company is facing challenges in ramping up production capacity.

The price of the SU7 starts at 215,900 yuan (about 27,900 euros) for the standard trim. The affordable price, along with the modern design and good technical specifications, has prompted many Chinese people to order the SU7.

The Pro and Max trims have better specifications and more options, and are priced higher, but are still cheaper than competitors like the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S.

Xiaomi is rapidly expanding its network of showrooms across China. There are currently 59 showrooms in China that showcase the SU7. Xiaomi plans to open 211 showrooms across China by the end of this year.

The Xiaomi factory in Beijing is expected to produce 300,000 vehicles per year and will start operating with a production capacity of 150,000 vehicles in the first phase. Currently, the factory can produce 40 SU7s per hour, which means one car rolls off the production line every 76 seconds.

Xiaomi hopes to reach the production capacity of phase one by mid-2024, a goal that could significantly reduce delivery times.
