Gmail to Get Email Summarization Powered by Gemini AI

Gmail will soon receive the ability to summarize emails thanks to Gemini AI.

Google will soon replace the Google Assistant voice assistant with its advanced artificial intelligence called Gemini. Gemini uses Google’s large language model (LLM) and has the ability to perform complex tasks such as summarizing long emails.

It was already clear that all of Google’s main services would be integrated with Gemini in some way. How this integration will work has now been revealed with the publication of a screenshot of the Android Gmail app by the website Android Authority.

According to the leaked image, there is a “Summarize This Email” option to summarize the content of the email below the subject line. After tapping on the summarize email section, a Gemini slider window appears from the bottom and provides a summarized version of the email. The feature in question is useful for emails that have a lot of volume.

The feature in question works without any problems, however it is not yet active for the general public. It is expected that Google will release it publicly at the I/O 2024 event.

Google will unveil its new operating systems, along with the Pixel 8a phone and advancements related to the Chrome browser, Gemini AI and other services, at the I/O 2024 event to be held on May 14th.
