Fortnite to return to iPad in EU following DMA ruling

Hours after the European Union (EU) added iPadOS to its list of “gatekeeper” platforms, Epic Games has officially confirmed that it will bring Fortnite to Apple’s tablet before the end of 2024.

Epic had previously announced the return of Fortnite to iPhones in response to the implementation of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

In a post on the social network X, Epic Games welcomed the EU’s new decision and announced that it is working “full steam ahead” to bring the iPhone version of Fortnite to the Epic Games Store in Europe soon. The company added that Fortnite will later be released on the iPad.

The legal battle between Apple and Epic Games began a few years ago when Epic added a direct payment gateway to the Fortnite game, which ultimately led to Apple’s reaction and the removal of Fortnite from the App Store.

The dispute between Apple and Epic went to court, and Apple ultimately won in many parts of the case. However, the American tech giant was forced to make changes to its ecosystem.
