Elon Musk Pledges $500 Million for Supercharger Expansion After Firing Team

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has said that the company will still spend over half a billion dollars to expand its Supercharger network, despite firing Rebecca Tinucci, the senior director of EV charging, and her entire 500-person team. Musk claimed that Tesla remains committed to developing Superchargers.

The Tesla CEO added, “This is just for new sites and expansions, not counting operating costs, which are much higher.” He had previously said that Tesla still plans to grow the Supercharger network, but at a slower pace.

Tesla is in a state of crisis, and Musk is trying to show that he is in control to reassure investors. The company’s sales are falling, and international rivals are catching up to Tesla.

Tesla was in turmoil in April, with many top executives leaving the company after multiple rounds of layoffs.

The firing of Tinucci and her team has dealt a blow to Tesla’s reputation. Tesla’s relatively reliable fast-charging network is unique in the United States, and many people consider it the only reason to buy a Tesla.
